Today's fashion advice is on how to find the perfect bra. If that one word seems to inspire you with confusion and frustration, have no fear! Here is some time-tested advice, and tips designed to help you get the ideal bra that will help you maximize what is there, in an ever so tasteful and classy way!

Finding A Good Bra

"Forty pictures I was in, and all I remember is 'What kind of bra will you be wearing today, honey?' That was always the area of big decision - from the neck to the navel," recounts actress Donna Reed in a Vogue interview.

Finding the Right Size -

Having been shopping with enough women when they were looking for that perfect outfit for the 'Big Event', I was truly dismayed to discover that almost 80% of women I know wear the wrong bra size. This unhealthy fact seems to strike at all levels of womankind; from glamorous Hollywood starlets to the stay-at-home moms. It's especially true in today's modern pop culture driven world where most women seem to questing after the fabled high and perky look.

Remember, if your breasts are squeezed to tightly into your bra, it is bad. The wrong size does not make you look smaller, better, or right. Thankfully, correcting this painful problem is fairly easy.

The Band Size

The band size is the numbered part of the bra label, and it refers to the size of your chest, not your breast. The cup size, which is the lettered part of label, refers to your breast size. It is very important to know both your chest and cup measurements. Getting the right numbered bra for your chest, but the wrong cup size can lead to painful rubbing from the lining of the bra. And if one gets too small a cup size, then the breasts end up being squeezed by the bra leading to constant pain as long as you have the bra on and may lead to unsightly bulges. Both of these situations are neither terribly fun or comfortable for the time you are stuck in a 'bad bra'.

Get a Bra Fitting

Most lingerie shops like Victoria's Secret or Frederick's of Hollywood to high-end department stores like Macy's have a professionally trained retail staff and are able to assist you in finding the correct bra size.

Give yourself the freedom

Try on all the different styles of bras from frilly pink lacy ones to the tame pastel underwire ones. Every style fits and feels differently when you have it on, and they all 'mold' the breast into a different shape. With handy information in hand, you need to pay attention to how they fit and feel. Schedule yourself a good hour to go bra shopping, especially if you know you will be trying on several different styles.

Bra Shopping

During my long career as a stylist, I have learned a thing or two from all the time I spent out questing for 'right' clothing for the different projects I was working on from film to high fashion photo shoots. Here are a couple of tips I developed that can making bra shopping so much less stressful.

#1 Bra Pairing

If you are planning to go out shopping for a bra that goes along with a 'special outfit', I suggest wearing the 'special outfit' during the bra fitting. I can't stress enough the fact that you don't know how the bra will make you look until you try it on. If you wear the 'special outfit' during the bra fitting, then you solve both problems of how you will look with the bra on and how they fit with your look.

#2 Preventing Wardrobe Malfunctions

Lastly, truly trying out a bra is like walking around in shoes to see if they fit right. That means if you are planning to wear this bra when you are sitting a desk during work for instance keep in mind that most likely you will be sitting as people come and stand over you. Is the bra making it so that everyone can see the girls? Or is it revealing a tasteful bit, but covering the rest? One way to test the bra out is to sit on the bench in the dressing room and stare at yourself in the mirror to see if the bra is acting the way you want it to.

"A good bra is hard to find, comfortable, supportive, always lifts you up, makes you look better, never lets you down or leaves you hanging, and always close to your hear," Author Unknown.
